Registration still being accepted for 2nd annual SCA Tennis Tournament

mbradbury@breezenewspaeprs.com Registration is still open for those who would like to participate in the 2nd annual SCA Tennis Tournament next weekend.
The Tennis Tournament, hosted by Beachview Tennis Club and benefiting the Sanibel Community Association (SCA), will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, and Sunday, Nov. 15. The tournament will take place at the Beachview Tennis Club, at 1101 Par View Drive.
Registration is $100 per person, or $150 for both days per person. The deadline to register is Wednesday, Nov. 11. Those interested are asked to call Beachview Tennis Club owner and Tournament Organizer Toni Halski at (239) 472-9009.
All of the participants will receive a T-shirt, which are sponsored by the Sanibel Captiva Community Bank.
The winners will receive trophies.
SCA Executive Director Emily Ankerson said although this is the second annual Tennis Tournament that SCA is hosting, the tournament has been a long-standing tradition on the island.
“It’s a really fun tournament,” she said.
The inaugural year attracted more than 40 players.
Ankerson said each day all the participants and people who come to cheer on the players will receive light breakfast items and lunch, which has been donated by different restaurants and establishments on the island. Those include Doc Ford’s, Lazy Flamingo, Sanibel Deli and Jerry’s Foods.
New this year will be a mimosa and bloody Mary bar.
Ankerson said she enjoys the tournament because she is a tennis player.
“Ivy and I will be playing doubles together and my husband and I play mixed doubles. We are a tennis family,” she said.
SCA has a couple of big fundraisers every year — the Gala and Shell Festival. Ankerson said she enjoys this one as it is smaller, people have the opportunity to play a sport and be outdoors.
“It’s a little bit of a different vibe. It’s fun and active, and very relaxed and laid back,” she said.
Sponsorships are still being accepted. Contact the Community House at (239) 472-2155, or emily@sanibelcommunityhouse.net.
Funds that are raised will go toward programming and operations for The Community House.
“All the fundraising we do help keep us going,” Ankerson said. “We are a nonprofit. We rely on support from our members and donors to keep our programs going and operate our facility. For a very long time we were always the center of activity on the island. Now it feels like we are back to being the center of activity again, which is great.”
