Perfect place for a relaxing vacation
To the editor:
I was so calm, and extremely relaxed! It was the end of my two-week vacation, on Sanibel Island. I had spent my time doing exactly what I wanted in this warm weather paradise!
Traveling to Sanibel Island from the Fort Myers airport, you drive over a scenic causeway bridge and then heave a sigh of relief on the other side. You’re here!
Everything is set up for your ease and comfort. First, you stop at Jerry’s Foods, which is situated in a tropical garden! You buy your groceries. The supermarket will transport them into your car, one level below, so you don’t have to carry them! Now, you can head to your condo or other place of refuge to settle in.
Everything you could possibly want to do in this warm weather paradise is here! Each morning we sat on our screened-in porch for several hours with our coffee and breakfast, listening to the birds welcome us with their cheerful chirping!
Then about 11 a.m., when we were finally rested and ready, we rode our bikes or walked along the 26 miles of the Shared Use Path, which surrounds the island. No cars are allowed there!
Sometimes we stopped at the gym in the Sanibel Recreation Center. Many days we also swam in the perfectly heated swimming pool there, which had six lap lanes. Afterward, we sunned ourselves or read our books for hours in lounge chairs surrounding the pool.
Other days we took long walks on the beach collecting seashells in this seashell capital of the world!
On Sunday mornings, we went to the well-attended Sanibel Island Farmers Market and bought our fresh fruits, vegetables, and freshly baked bread and pastries.
After, we strolled down the bike and walking path to see either the art show or the craft show.
I’ll also never forget that afternoon when I read my book for hours on the screened-in outdoor deck of the local library!
The best part though was every evening when we strolled over Clam Bayou to Bowman’s Beach to watch the sun set and its afterglow. Everyone else in our condo community met there also, along with the resident great blue heron, which would check out the fishermen for a free dinner!
It was the perfect vacation. Everything there was easy to set up, easy to see and most easy to enjoy! That’s what Sanibel Island is all about. You will never forget your visit to this carefree, friendly, island paradise!
