Community Housing & Resources (CHR) offers its heartfelt thanks to the Sanibel City Council for voting at its meeting on March 31 to allow the proposed Riverview II workforce housing project to move forward. Their thoughtful consideration and compassionate leadership struck the vital balance between preservation with progress and supporting the working people who make Sanibel thrive.

Likewise, CHR is grateful for the many residents, business owners and community members who voiced their support. They stood up for the project as well as the essential workers who sustain the island every day — including teachers, non-profit staff, healthcare professionals and service industry employees. Their voices spoke to the immense value of having the employees who serve Sanibel able to live in the community they support.

Powerful moments like this happen when a community shows up, shares perspectives and works through the issues together. That’s a hallmark of Sanibel’s people. Thanks to this outcome, Riverview II will provide 39 affordable workforce apartment homes, helping address the growing need for attainable housing on the island. The project will support economic stability, reduce commuting burdens for local workers, and strengthen the fabric of the Sanibel community.

CHR remains committed to transparency, community engagement, and delivering high-quality housing that aligns with the character and needs of the island. To learn more about Riverview II, go to sancapchr.org or call 239-472-1189.

Community Housing & Resources (CHR) is a not-for-profit organization with the mission to provide affordable housing for families and individuals who work and serve the island communities. It was formed in 1979 to address the growing need for affordable housing in the Sanibel community, and the city of Sanibel passed an ordinance in 1983 establishing the Affordable Housing Program and designating CHR as its housing foundation.
