G. Donald (Don) Adams passed away at the age of 85 on December 5, 2025. As a museum marketing and public relations specialist, bicycling enthusiast, travel writer, book author, and photographer, Don led a creative life. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jane Adams; nephew Stephen Halleran; and cousins Linda Lyon, Marcia Syrett, Janice Braley, and Debra Zoltanski.

Don pursued his professional career vigorously. He was on the senior staff as External Relations Officer at Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, Dearborn, Michigan, and later served as the Director of the Automotive Hall of Fame, also in Dearborn. In retirement he was a management consultant and worked with museums across the country.

When Don and Jane retired and moved to Sanibel Island and later to the Shell Point Retirement Community, Fort Myers, he continued to pursue his interests in history, writing, and photography. He led the Sanibel Historical Preservation Committee in a multi-year process to produce the Sanibel Heritage Trail Markers; was a frequent lecturer for the Shell Point Academy of Life-Long Learning; and was named a Legacy Artist by the Tribby Arts Center. The latest of his four books was Alleluia: Stories of an Island and a Church, a history of Sanibel Island and Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on February 21 in Saint Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, 2304 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Remembrances may be made to Saint Michael’s Madden Fund, Shell Point Friendship Fund; or the Gulf Coast Humane Society.
