Lee Alfred Almas

The family of Lee Alfred Almas is saddened to announce his passing on October 11, 2025 (94), a long-time resident of Sanibel Island. Lee was born to Carl J. Almas and Ella Vouwie Almas, January 2, 1931 in Garfield Heights, Ohio.

Lee is survived by his wife of 74+ years, Margery Kramer Almas; his legacy continues with his son, David L. Almas, wife Trina, and granddaughter Julianna; daughter Deborah L. Phillips, husband Steve, grandsons Gamma-Rei, Matthew, wife Paula, great grandson Riker Lee, grandson Andrew; and son Brian L. Almas, wife Leslie, granddaughter Katie, husband Karl, and grandson David.

Lee had a long and affectionate affiliation with Sanibel, having lived on the island 48 years and his father, Carl, having built the original Beachcomber Motel and Resort Apartments, on E. Gulf Drive, in 1958, and as well as owner of Almas Lumber Products.

Lee, never a stranger to hard work and solving problems, began working at age 12, managing his newspaper route. Lee earned a B.S. degree in Accounting from Western Reserve, Cleveland, Ohio, 1952. Upon graduating, he joined Almas Lumber Company as Treasurer. 1962 brought change, moving his family to Pittsford, New York and joining National Screw and Manufacturing as Regional Sales Representative. In 1966, he moved his family to Birmingham, Michigan while becoming Regional Sales Director at Standard Mirror and Manufacturing, supplying products throughout the automotive industry. Lee’s final move was to Sanibel Island in 1977 where he established Almas Lumber Products.

Lee had many interests serving and supporting his communities. As a committed Eucuristic Minister at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, Sanibel, as well as the head of the church’s Building and Maintenance Committee, the Chairman of the church’s Memorial Garden Committee and building project phase II. Lee sat on the Board of Directors for The Bailey-Mathew National Shell Museum, a member of Sanibel Big Arts, F.I.S.H., Sanibel Disaster Relief Team. A 20 year Rotarian with Rotary International Sanibel-Captiva club, was awarded Rotarian of the Year 2008, and served as President 2009-2010. He was a 32nd degree Freemason of the Scottish Rite for 65 years (member of the Acacia #651 Lodge, Euclid, Ohio), volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America, Little League International. High school football Line Marker, and volunteer in any activities his children participated in. Lee had a strong sense of service above self and duty of helping and supporting others. Always dependable and caring.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, Sanibel Island, Saturday January 31, 2026 at 11:00am, 2304 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel FL, 33957.

Lee, Dad, Papa – your life was a blessing to so many. You positively touched many lives and you are truly missed. Rest in Peace.
