Dr. H. Scott Withers
Dr. H. Scott Withers, 81, of White Sulphur Springs, W.V. and Sanibel Island, died on March 8, 2011 at his home on Sanibel. He was born 1929 in Glenville, W.V., a child of Herbert Franklin and Janet (Duff) Withers.
Dr. Withers practiced dentistry for 38 years in White Sulphur Springs and also served three years as the dental officer for the 77th Special Forces, U.S. Army. He graduated from Glenville High School, Washington and Lee University, West Virginia Wesleyan University and Western Reserve University School of Dentistry.
He served as a member and president of The Greenbrier County Board of Education; a vestry member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church; original Board of Trustees, Greenbrier Valley Humana Hospital; President and Paul Harris Fellow of the White Sulphur Rotary Club; and member of the Sanibel-Captiva Power and Sail Squadron. He was an avid gardener, family historian and saltwater fisherman.
Survived by wife of 55 years, Jane (Demarest) Withers, his children, Jennifer Jane Johnson (Richard) of Charleston, W.V., Alexander Scott Withers (Sharie) of Athens, Texas, Dr. Laura Elizabeth Withers-Boyles (Glenn) of Fairmont, W.V., his grandchildren, Joseph Spano, Elizabeth and Scott Johnson, Dillon Myrick, Allie, Scottie and Megan Withers, and MacKenzie and Catherine Boyles and his sisters, Catherine Aker of Dallas, Texas and Anne Lilly of Glenville, W.V.
Memorial services were held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church on March 12. A service will be held later in White Sulphur Springs, W.V. with burial in Glenville, W.V.
