Island-wide Mulching and Beautification Project to begin Nov. 7
The City of Sanibel Public Works Department will begin a mulching and landscape beautification project on Saturday, Nov. 7, with work anticipated to continue through Friday, Nov. 20, weather and site conditions permitting.
This project is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance the appearance of the island, improve landscaped areas, and maintain the natural beauty of Sanibel for residents and visitors.
Mulching activities will take place at the following locations:
• Periwinkle Way: Landscape beds and designated areas along the Periwinkle Way corridor, extending from the Lighthouse area to Tarpon Bay Road.
• Palm Ridge Road: Landscape planting beds along Palm Ridge Road.
• Public Beach Parks: Landscape planting beds throughout the city’s public beach park facilities.
Traffic advisory and public safety
Residents, visitors, and motorists are encouraged to exercise caution when traveling through areas where mulching operations are underway. City contractors and their equipment will be working near roadways, parking areas, and pedestrian pathways throughout the project.
While major traffic disruptions are not anticipated, minor traffic delays may occur due to mulch deliveries, equipment movement, and ongoing landscape operations. Increased visitation to the island may also contribute to additional traffic congestion during this period.
The city asks motorists to:
• Reduce speeds and remain alert when approaching active work areas.
• Watch for workers, delivery vehicles, and equipment entering or exiting roadways and parking areas.
• Follow any temporary traffic control measures or directions provided by workers.
• Allow additional travel time and plan accordingly, particularly during periods of increased island traffic.
Commitment to island beautification
The mulching project is intended to enhance the overall appearance of the Periwinkle Way corridor, Palm Ridge Road, and the city’s public beach parks. These improvements support the city’s continued commitment to maintaining attractive, well-kept public spaces while preserving the island’s unique character and natural environment.
