The Save the Manatee Club received a $1,000 donation from The Sanibel-Captiva Nature Calendar Publisher Jim Fowler.

This is the 38th annual donation from this publication to a conservation organization. Since first publishing the calendar in 1988, it has become a tradition each fall to donate a portion of the proceeds to one of the organizations listed inside the rear cover.

Save The Manatee Club was selected because of their state-wide efforts to save this highly endangered gentle marine mammal through public education and their support of protection measures. This organization advocates for support of laws and policies including the Endangered Species Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Their efforts help protect manatee habitat and health.

“It’s an exciting treat to see a manatee in the waters off Sanibel and Captiva. During the warmer months, I have had the pleasure of seeing manatees in Tarpon Bay, out in Pine Island Sound and around Upper Captiva. In winter, manatees can be observed at Manatee Park in Fort Myers. These marine mammals are a pleasure to watch,” Fowler said.

Last fall $1,000 was donated to the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society. The year before $500 was donated to the Sanibel Sea School. To date this publication has donated $30,689.25 to conservation organizations in Florida.
