The Captiva Island Historical Society (CIHS) extends its deepest gratitude to Queenie Viglione Jensen as she concludes more than 15 years of extraordinary service.

As CIHS’s original board assistant and its founding — and only — archivist Jensen has played an essential role in the organization’s growth. While helping preserve Captiva’s history, she also helped transform how that history is shared, contributing significantly to CIHS’s evolution into the multifaceted historical resource it is today.

Under Jensen’s stewardship, CIHS’s online archives have grown to include more than 14,000 digitized items, including family letters, newspaper articles, photographs, postcards and audio recordings. This extensive and easily accessible collection serves researches, writers, historians, and the public, providing invaluable access to the people, places, and stories that comprise Captiva’s rich and colorful history.

Beyond her work as archivist, Jensen has played an integral role in the inspiration, planning, and presentation of the innovative programs for which CIHS has become widely known. Her creativity, historical knowledge, and deep connection to Captiva have enriched the experiences we share with the island community and audiences well beyond it.
