SPD releases monthly numbers

As part of its recent The Sanibel Community Safety Update, the Sanibel Police Department (SPD) released “Island Safety By The Numbers” for the month of July.

The numbers are as follows:

Law enforcement activity

– Arrests: Nine

– Notices to appear issued: Four

– Reported burglaries or thefts: Four

Traffic enforcement, safety

– Traffic stops: 586

– Citations issued: 89

– Warnings issued: 507

– Radar enforcement details: 296

– Traffic crashes: 13

Calls for service

– Calls for service: 8,954

– 911 calls received: 189

– Alarm calls: 28

Community engagement, patrol

– Residential area checks: 2,438

– Business area checks: 1,489

– Area checks: 5,731

– Ranger contacts on Shared Use Path: 656

– Ranger contacts at parks and beaches: 983

ARRESTS

– On July 1, a male subject was arrested and charged with burglary of an unoccupied structure.

– On July 2, a driver was arrested and charged with knowingly driving with a suspended license and obstruction of justice. The driver’s passenger was also arrested and charged with obstruction of justice.

– On July 7, a driver was arrested and charged with DUI 0.15% or higher.

– On July 11, a driver was arrested and charged with DUI, refusal to submit and possession of a controlled substance.

– On July 12, a driver was arrested and charged with DUI and refusal to submit.

– On July 17, a driver was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license.

– On July 18, a driver was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license.

– On July 26, a driver was arrested and charged with driving while license suspended — habitual offender and providing false identification to law enforcement.
