Sanibel library offers range of programs and topics
The Sanibel Public Library provides a variety of programming for adults and children.
With support from the Sanibel Public Library Foundation, the library hosts a series of virtual author talks to include bestselling authors and thought leaders. The next ones will take place on Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. with #1 New York Times bestseller Lucy Foley, author of “The Guest List” and “The Midnight Feast,” and on Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. with award-winning historian David O. Stewart, author of “The Democracy We Must Keep: Seven Founders, Nine Documents, and the Ideas That Shaped America.”
Foley will delve into her new Miss Marple mystery, “Murder at the Grand Alpine Hotel.” Attendees will have a chance to win a copy of the book. She is a No. 1 Sunday Times, Irish Times and New York Times bestselling author. Over 10 million copies of her books are in print worldwide, and several are being adapted for the screen. Foley is a Waterstones Thriller of the Month author, a three-time nominee at the British Book Awards, and “The Guest List” was a Reese’s Book Club selection and winner of the Goodreads Choice Award for Mystery Thriller. As a life-long Agatha Christie fan, she has drawn inspiration from the Queen of Crime. Foley was one of 12 writers to contribute to “Marple.”
Stewart will chat about his new book, “The Democracy We Must Keep,” and the question he explores throughout it: What did America’s founders say about democracy, and can we remain true to their vision for America? Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how American democracy started, why it still matters and the active role each generation must play to uphold it. Bestselling author of “Impeached” and “The Summer of 1787,” he has published 11 award-winning and best-selling books of history and historical novels. In 2023, Stewart received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Washington Independent Review of Books. His most recent fictional series is the Overstreet Saga.

Crafternoon will take place on Aug. 26 from 3 to 4 p.m. Open to ages 3 and older, participants will make a work of art. A variety of craft supplies will be available, along with examples and guidance.

WEEKLY PROGRAMMING
– Family Storytime: Fridays and Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Bring the whole family to enjoy stories, songs, movement and early literacy play centers that spark creativity and motor skills. Open to babies and toddlers and their caregivers.
Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge. Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee.
The library is open on Monday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Effective May 1, it will be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
