The “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge (DDWS) reported that the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge’s Wildlife on Wheels (WoW) team again broke records for the 2025-26 school year for the number of students and other individuals that it reached with its conservation education mission. The WoW visited 13 low-income, Title I schools in the School District of Lee County, with a total of 9,005 students. Add five summer camps totaling 530 students and the number rises to 9,535. It also visited and educated at seven community events, including two JetBlue Park STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering and Math — Days and two school-based STEM nights. Nearly 1,700 individuals attended the events, bringing the WoW’s total impact to 11,225.
