Recreation center provides update on activities, events

The Sanibel Recreation Center reported on upcoming programs and activities.

Volunteer Coach Training will take place on Aug. 29 from 10 a.m. to noon. It is mandatory for all volunteer coaches. A second session is set for Oct. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. for those unable to attend in August. It will include: on-boarding session, code of conduct, CPR compression only, and youth sports concussion video and discussion. The Sanibel Fire and Rescue District will offer blood pressure checks on Aug. 31 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Free and open to the public.

The Flag Football Fall League will run from Oct. 9 through Nov. 20, with practice from 5 to 5:45 p.m. followed by game play from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. Open to boys and girls in grades K-8, the program offers a fun, supportive environment where young athletes can build skills, confidence, teamwork and sportsmanship. The cost is $60 for members and $75 for non-members and includes a jersey. Registration is required.

The center is open on Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Beach parking permits are available for purchase.

New and current members can call 239-472-0345 or stop by the front desk for help with setting up their CivicRec account. A variety of memberships, passes and punch cards are available.
