Lily Jack, 14, of Jamestown, Ohio, found a junonia on July 4 at 11:30 a.m. near Gulfside City Park Beach on Sanibel. Visiting the island for the first time with her grandparents, she was shelling by herself when she spotted it. “Lily really had no idea what she had just found!” grandmother Shannon Hebel said. “She brought it to her papaw and he couldn’t get me out of the water fast enough!” She reported that she and her husband, Mark, visit Sanibel frequently. “She didn’t believe us on the fact of how rare they are,” Hebel added. “She knows now what a gem she found! What a super special moment!” To report a shell find, contact 239-472-1587 or trepecki@breezenewspapers.com.
