Island triathlon to offer multiple ways to participate
Registration is open for the annual South Seas Captiva Island Triathlon on Sept. 27 on the island.
Hosted by the resort and produced by Game On Race Events, participants will swim the pristine waters of the Gulf, bicycle on a course closed to vehicular traffic, and enjoy a scenic run along the coastline.
Sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the beginner-friendly race is open to athletes of all levels.
It will feature five formats:
– Super Sprint Tri, which will include a 200-yard swim, five-mile bike and 1.5-mile run
– Sprint Triathlon, which will include a quarter-mile swim, 10-mile bike and 3.1-mile run
– Sprint Duathlon, which will include a one-mile run, 10-mile bike and 3.1-mile run
– Sprint Aquabike, which will include a quarter-mile swim and 10-mile bike with no run
– Sprint Triathlon Relay, which is designed for two- or three-person teams
The race will kick off with the Super Sprint Tri at 7:15 a.m. It will be followed by the Sprint Duathlon at 7:25 a.m., and then the Sprint Triathlon, Sprint Aquabike and Sprint Triathlon Relay at 7:40 a.m.
“Every finisher receives a custom finisher medal at the finish line,” South Seas reported.
The awards will be handed out three deep (male and female) for the following: overall; age groups, from 15 and under up through 80 and older; para; athena; clydesdale; and relay teams (male, female and co-ed). Masters awarded will be given out for first place only for ages 40 and older. Aquabike awards will be handed out three deep for overall plus age group.
“There is no double dipping between overall/masters and age group,” the resort reported.
