A fundraiser to benefit Rx Compassion and raise awareness about the nonprofit organization will take place on Aug. 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Home by Rachel Pierce, at 1626 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.

Hosted by Pierce and Cecilia Jane Liichow of John R. Wood Properties, it will feature Rx Compassion founder and guest speaker Dr. Clarel Antoine. Attendees will have the chance to enjoy refreshments, meet others in the community, and learn more about the work that the nonprofit organization is doing.

Rx Compassion is dedicated to improving care and outcomes for mothers, particularly those undergoing cesarean deliveries, through education, research and advocacy. It seeks to empower patients, educate medical professionals and reduce preventable complications associated with C-sections, including placenta accreta and other conditions, that can affect future pregnancies.

A maternal-fetal medicine specialist, Antoine has spent decades caring for women and studying ways to make C-sections safer. His work has focused not only on what happens in the operating room, but on how a C-section can affect a woman’s health and future pregnancies. Antoine’s research has concluded that placenta accreta is caused by a uterine scar defect where the uterine lining meets the uterine wall.

Free and open to the public, the event aims to raise funds for a realistic instruction model that can be used to educate and train medical professionals on his findings and groundbreaking surgical technique.

The goal is to fund physician teaching manuals and models, plus multilingual maternal guides. By educating doctors and mothers, Rx Compassion can create a culture where a woman’s voice is part of every birth decision — leading to fewer unnecessary C-sections, fewer complications and healthier futures after cesarean.
