CITY OF SANIBEL At its meeting on Aug. 18, the Sanibel City Council recognized retiring Lee Health President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Lawrence Antonucci through a proclamation.

The city of Sanibel released the following summary of the Sanibel City Council’s regular meeting, which was held on Aug. 18 in MacKenzie Hall at City Hall on Sanibel:

SECOND READING, PUBLIC HEARING

Council held the second reading and public hearing for legislation related to speed zones. The ordinance was adopted by the council. The legislation states that all speed limits will be established by ordinance. PASSING ZONES

ROUNDABOUT REFERENDUM

Council determined the ballot language for an advisory referendum concerning the proposed roundabout at Periwinkle Way and Causeway Boulevard. The referendum will appear on the March municipal election ballot.

COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS

Council appointed applicants Richard Birney, Matt Chesser, Angi Welch and Jane Winslow to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.

STORMWATER ASSESSMENT

Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Officer Steve Chaipel reviewed the key points of the presentation on the potential stormwater assessment that was provided at the July 21 meeting. Council tabled a resolution to establish a public hearing regarding an assessment and directed staff to gather more information related to assessment structures.

FLOCK CAMERA SYSTEM

City Manager Souza and Sanibel Police Chief William Dalton provided information to council about the use of automated license plate readers (LPR) on Sanibel and answered questions from council.
