The Sanibel Recreation Center hosted its Summer Camp Program from June 8 through July 31 for 440 children entering grades K-8 in the fall, along with its Counselor in Training (C.I.T.) Program.

The campers enjoyed a full schedule of recreation, enrichment and special activities designed to keep them active, engaged and connected. The weekly programming included creative art classes, tumbling sessions, swimming, games, crafts and other activities. In addition, the newly renovated Game Room provided an exciting space for entertainment, friendship and bonding.

The campers also traveled throughout Southwest Florida for field trips to destinations, including Great Wolf Lodge Waterpark, Brightwater Lagoon, the movies, Sky Zone and Slick City, along with other summer adventures.

Local organizations helped the campers learn more about Sanibel’s unique environment and wildlife. The center extended its appreciation to island partners Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW), Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation’s (SCCF) Sanibel Sea School and The Sanctuary Golf Club for providing educational and hands-on experiences. The campers also enjoyed a special visit from PT the Dog, who brought plenty of smiles and excitement.

The city of Sanibel offered a special thank you to the Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Club for its grant supporting the summer camp program, and it thanked FISH of Sanibel-Captiva for providing snacks and meals on days when Lee County’s free summer lunch program was unavailable.

The center also thanked its dedicated counselors, staff members, volunteers, families and community partners who helped to make the summer safe, successful and filled with lasting memories.
