SANCAP CHAMBER The community showed up to applaud the addition of 22 lodging units to the island's inventory at the SanCap Chamber's ribbon-cutting for the Beachview Villas on Sanibel on Aug. 5.

Officially opened on May 21 following a complete post-Hurricane Ian teardown of the Beachview Cottages, the brand-new Beachview Villas on Sanibel celebrated its renaissance with an Aug. 5 ribbon-cutting hosted by the SanCap Chamber.

Sanibel Captiva Beach Resorts (SCBR) has owned the Gulf-front property — first built in the early 1950s pre-causeway — since 1979, President and Chairman of the Board Tony Lapi said.

“We have kept the same unit count of 22, but the makeup has changed,” he said. “There are 10 junior suites, 11 one-bedroom suites, and the Junonia — a four-bedroom, four-bath unit with a game/lounging area and full kitchen. There is really nothing like it on Sanibel sitting directly on the Gulf.”

“What a victory this achieves,” chamber President and Chief Executive Officer John Lai said. “Another of our prime beach properties has returned, built to the highest standards of resiliency and refined lodging.”

Lapi commended the chamber’s support of their comeback and island accommodations in general.

“Our chamber of commerce has done an outstanding job supporting all the hospitality accommodation businesses,” he said. “They clearly understand that without accommodations, other businesses would suffer. The more units coming on line will create a rising tide that floats all boats.”

The Beachview Villas is at 3325 W. Gulf Drive, Sanibel.
