Trailways Camps holds on-island camp
Trailways Camps held its first-ever “In Community” camp on May 18-21 on Sanibel. Supported by presenting sponsor The Sanctuary Golf Club Foundation and other community sponsors, priority placement for the campers was given to adults with special needs whose family or caregivers have a Sanibel residency or are employees of Sanibel businesses or organizations. Next, priority went to previous campers who had been waiting five or more years to take part again. The camp’s activities reflected new and broadened hosting and in-kind community sponsorships, including the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium, Captiva Cruises, Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Club, Sanibel Community Church, Sanibel Island Beach Resort, Sanibel Sea School, Tarpon Bay Explorers, The Community House, The Sanctuary Golf Club, restaurants like Rosalita’s Cantina, Sanibel Deli and The Sanibel Cafe, bicycle and mobility providers, and other local vendors. Led by Executive Director Jamie Senkeleski, 80-plus volunteers registered to help out, including board members and advisors.
