Keep Lee County Beautiful (KLCB) announced the completion of the 2026 Greatest American Cleanup, a nationwide initiative celebrating America’s 250th anniversary through community action and environmental stewardship.

Throughout April, May and June, it coordinated 29 cleanup events across Lee County, bringing together 473 volunteers who dedicated 1,170 hours to improving local communities and natural spaces.

Volunteers removed 6,074 pounds of litter and debris from roadways, parks, shorelines and waterways. Their efforts resulted in the cleanup of 17 roadside miles, five acres of parks and public spaces, and seven miles of shoreline spanning 12 ZIP codes. At the Sanibel Causeway Greatest American Cleanup, volunteers removed 400 pounds.

“The Greatest American Cleanup demonstrated the incredible power of community service and environmental stewardship,” KLCB Executive Director Trish Fancher said. “As our nation celebrates 250 years of history, we’re proud that hundreds of Lee County residents chose to honor that milestone by taking action to protect and beautify the places we live, work and play.”

It extended appreciation to its partners and sponsors for their support, including city of Cape Coral, city of Fort Myers, Coca-Cola Beverages Florida, College Hunks Hauling Junk & Moving, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation, FPL, Gibson Air Conditioning, Herc Rentals, Kayak Excursions, Keep America Beautiful, Keep Florida Beautiful, Lee County Parks & Recreation, Lee County Solid Waste, Reworld, Rotary Club of Cape Coral, Suncoast Credit Union, Surfing’s Evolution & Preservation Foundation, town of Fort Myers Beach, Tunaskin Aquatic Apparel, Waste Pro, and WM.
