DDWS reports on school field trips
The “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge (DDWS) reported that it works in partnership with the School District of Lee County to transport classes to the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge for a hands-on and eyes-on experience with nature and wildlife.
During the 2025-26 school year, 25 schools visited the Sanibel premises for guided tours with environmental educator John Bailey. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade came from 13 elementary schools, six middle schools, three high schools, and three charter or private schools.
DDWS Executive Director Ann-Marie Wildman shared that Bailey, along with school district environmental education resource Susie Hassett and environmental education support staff Bruce Gifford, have made the public-private partnership a win-win for five school years.
“We credit the school district for its insight and wisdom continuing this crucial program with these incredible resources to effectively create conservation stewards of the future,” she said.
