The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) hosted a presentation and talk with author Emiliana Fuger, 10, on May 9 at its Visitors Education Center on Sanibel. Before an all-ages crowd, she read her children’s book, “Anatomy Under the Sea: The Adventures of Luna the Loggerhead.” Emiliana wrote the book after discovering a lack of age-appropriate marine science resources during her own research. During her presentation, she used a 3D-printed sea turtle model with hand-sewn organs to explain the anatomy concepts featured in her book. While Emiliana was at CROW, she also explored the “veterinary office” area for kids inside of the Visitor Education Center and took a VIP tour of the new Harkey Sea Turtle Complex with Education & Outreach Coordinator Brittnay Laster. From Florida’s East Coast, her visit combined many of the things that she loves most — wildlife, science and hands-on learning. Also during the presentation and author talk, attendees had the opportunity to talk with Emiliana, purchase her book at CROW and have copies personally signed.
