Bank of the Islands donated $25,000 to the fundraising campaign to rebuild the Sanibel Fishing Pier. The effort is being led by a public-private partnership of the city of Sanibel, Charitable Foundation of the Islands (CFI) and a committee of citizens. The project will be executed in two phases. The first will rebuild the decking and railings on the existing pier that was damaged during Hurricane Ian, ensure its structural integrity, and reestablish accessibility ramps. The second phase, with confirmed Lee County funding of $2.15 million, will bring a new and more resilient pier designed to withstand future storms.
