SANIBEL PUBLIC LIBRARY The Sanibel Public Library will offer Crafternoon: DIY Baseball Hats & Bags on July 1.

The Sanibel Public Library provides a variety of programming for adults and children.

Hobby Hour Swap will be held on July 1 from 11 a.m. to noon. Participants will have the chance to swap puzzles, painting supplies, knitting or quilting supplies. Or just come to soak up some knowledge from people who are true artists in their craft and to interact with your neighbors.

On July 1, Crafternoon: DIY Baseball Hats & Bags will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. Open to ages 5 and older, participants will design a baseball hat or string bag. Caps, bags and fabric markers will be provided, along with examples and guidance.

Island Adventures Stuffed Buddy Sleepover will be held on July 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. Participants can bring their favorite stuffed animal for a special sleepover event. Watch a movie together and then leave the cuddly companion for an overnight adventure filled with stories, crafts and secret library fun. The next day, they can pick up their stuffed friend and hear all about their exciting nighttime escapades.

On July 3, Signers of the Declaration of Independence will take place from 11 a.m. to noon with staffer Duane E. Shaffer. The Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on July, 4, 1776. Influenced by Enlightenment ideals of fundamental rights and freedoms, it provided the foundation and guiding principles for the new nation. On July 19, 1776, Congress ordered that the Declaration be engrossed on parchment and copied. On August 7, 1776, members of the Second Continental Congress, including John Hancock, the president of the Congress, began signing the engrossed copy of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. There would eventually be 56 signers of the document.

Book Talks will be held on July 3 from 3 to 4 p.m. The program is a roundtable talk where attendees can share their current reads and expand their to-be-read lists.

On July 7, Musical Family Storytime with Mr. John will take place from 10:30 to 11 a.m. He will bring his magical guitars and attendees will sing, read, question and move around. Afterward, children will be allowed to strum and play the guitars and various percussion instruments, followed by early literacy centers of play to flex minds, motor skills and creativity. The program will include an art/craft center.

Crafternoon will be held on July 8 from 3 to 4 p.m. Open to ages 3 and older, participants will make a work of art. A variety of craft supplies will be available, along with examples and guidance.

WEEKLY PROGRAMMING

– Family Storytime: Fridays and Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Bring the whole family to enjoy stories, songs, movement and early literacy play centers that spark creativity and motor skills. Open to babies and toddlers and their caregivers.

Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge. Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee.

The library is open on Monday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be closed on July 4 for Independence Day.
