Sanibel library offers range of programs and topics
The Sanibel Public Library provides a variety of programming for adults and children.
Crafternoon: Sidewalk Chalk will take place on June 3 from 3 to 4 p.m. Open to ages 5 and older, participants will have fun with sidewalk chalk outdoors. Chalk and guidance will be provided.
On June 4, The Calusa: The Kingdom of Southwest Florida will be held from 11 a.m. to noon with Isaac Hunter, of the Edison and Ford Winter Estates. The indigenous tribe known as the Calusa lived along the Southwest coast of Florida. They had far-ranging influence as well as a unique relationship with the Spanish. Learn about the tumultuous history of the Calusa and what remains of their legacy.
Book Talks will take place on June 5 from 3 to 4 p.m. The program is a roundtable talk where attendees can share their current reads and expand their to-be-read lists.
On June 9, Drum Life will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Open to all ages, participants will take part in an uplifting musical journey facilitated by Johannes Quilitz. Instruments will be provided. No previous experience is necessary.
The Florida Summer Sky will take place on June 10 from 11 a.m. to noon with staffer Duane E. Shaffer. Attendees will learn how to spot planets, stars and the moon, and they will explore what is possible to view and what light pollution may hide from one’s eyes.
On June 10, Crafternoon will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Open to ages 3 and older, participants will make a work of art. A variety of craft supplies will be available, along with examples and guidance.
WEEKLY PROGRAMMING
– Family Storytime: Fridays and Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Bring the whole family to enjoy stories, songs, movement and early literacy play centers that spark creativity and motor skills. Open to babies and toddlers and their caregivers.
Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge. Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee.
The library is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
