LCEC: How high heat impacts energy usage
LCEC reported that as the Southwest Florida temperatures soar, it is important to understand how weather significantly impacts energy usage.
With the biggest contributor to electric bills often being the use of air conditioning, it should be no surprise energy consumption tends to increase during the summer months. This is primarily due to temperature differential. The larger the gap between outside and inside temperatures, the harder the A/C will work to keep the home comfortably cool leading to increased energy usage.
“The weather cannot be controlled but how your energy is used can,” LCEC reported.
It shared the following tips:
– Try setting the thermostat to 78 degrees; each degree below adds 8-12% to cooling costs.
– Keep blinds and curtains closed during the day to prevent extra heat from entering the home.
– Check A/C filters monthly and change as needed.
