CITY OF SANIBEL At its meeting on June 16, the Sanibel City Council recognized the SanCap360 Community Health Dashboard and those involved in its development through a proclamation.

The city of Sanibel released the following summary of the Sanibel City Council’s regular meeting on June 16 in MacKenzie Hall at City Hall on Sanibel, which was followed by a budget workshop:

SANIBEL FISHING PIER

The council awarded the Sanibel Fishing Pier Temporary Repairs Pending Full Replacement Project to Stokes Marine. Funding for the temporary repair project is being provided through community donations collected by the Sanibel Fishing Pier Citizens Committee. The council thanked committee Chair Richard Birney and the committee members for their efforts in raising funds for the project.

SECOND READING, PUBLIC HEARING

The council held a second reading and public hearing for Ordinance 26-012, which is related to dewatering and pool drainage.

DISCUSSION, FIRST READING

The council held a discussion and first reading of legislation related to accessory structures. It provides better clarity and consistency in evaluating accessory structures within front yards, including multi-frontage lots.

DISCUSSION

The council discussed speed limits and provided direction for staff to prepare an amended ordinance for a first reading on July 21. It would establish that all speed limits would be established by ordinance. The draft ordinance would reflect that the speed limit on Sanibel-Captiva Road would remain at 35 mph and at 25 mph near Santiva and the speed limit on Periwinkle Way between Causeway Boulevard and Tarpon Bay Road would remain at 35 mph.

PRESENTATIONS

– SanCap Chamber President and Chief Executive Officer John Lai and Corrie Presland-Byrne, with Hammerhead Technology, presented the new SanCap360 Community Health Dashboard. The publicly available dashboard provides data and insights from a variety of sectors on Sanibel and Captiva. The council recognized the dashboard and expressed its gratitude for those involved in its development. To view the dashboard, visit http://sancap360.org.

– Legislative advocate Dan Delisi provided the 2026 Legislative Session Summary of water and environmental priorities. The council thanked him for his advocacy for the city over the past 11 years.

After the meeting, the council held the budget workshop for fiscal year 2026-27.
