The Sanibel Public Library provides a variety of programming for adults and children.

With support from the Sanibel Public Library Foundation, the library has launched a series of virtual author talks to include bestselling authors and thought leaders. The next ones will take place on May 7 at 7 p.m. with internationally-acclaimed author Marjan Kamali and on May 12 at 2 p.m. with award-winning author Dr. Vivienne Ming.

Kamali will delve into the timeless wonder of her New York Times bestselling novel, “The Lion Women of Tehran.” Born in Turkey to Iranian parents, she is also the award-winning author of “The Stationery Shop” and “Together Tea.” Kamali is the 2022 recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Award. Her books have been translated into over 30 languages.

Ming will discuss new book, “Robot-Proof: When Machines Have All the Answers, Build Better People.” A theoretical neuroscientist and inventor, she has founded seven startups, been chief scientist at two others, founded The Human Trust and co-founded Possibility Sciences. Ming also develops AI tools for learning at home and in school, models of bias in hiring and promotion, and neurotechnologies for dementia, TBI and postpartum depression. She was named one of “10 Women to Watch in Tech” by Inc. Magazine and one of the BBC’s 100 Women in 2017. Ming is featured frequently for her research and inventions in The Financial Times, The Atlantic, Quartz Magazine and The New York Times. Attendees of the virtual author talk will have the chance to win a copy of her new book.
