Rec center to offer summer camp, C.I.T. programs

The Sanibel Recreation Department will offer its Summer Camp Program from June 8 through July 31 for children entering grades K-8 in the fall, a long-standing tradition and unforgettable experience.

Taking place on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sanibel Recreation Center, it is designed to keep youths active, engaged and connected. The program blends recreation, creativity and adventure in a safe and supportive environment.

There will be a range of activities for campers, including:

– Daily swimming and water fun

– Creative crafts and hands-on themed activities

– On-island adventures, such as kayaking, golfing and beach excursions

– Bounce houses, themed experiences and treats

In addition, weekly off-island field trips will include:

– Dave & Buster’s for interactive arcade fun

– Rock climbing adventures at Fort Rock and Central Rock

– A trip to AMC theaters to catch “Toy Story 5”

– High-energy outings to Sky Zone and Slick City

– Water-filled days at Sun-N-Fun Lagoon, Sunsplash and Brightwater Lagoon

– A full-day adventure at Great Wolf Lodge

– Classic fun at HeadPinz and Happy’s Fun Center

Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the School District of Lee County when in session, with FISH of Sanibel-Captiva supplying the meals on days when the district’s summer school is not in session.

Daily snacks will also be supplied.

The per child cost per week is $135 for members and $170 for non-members.

C.I.T. PROGRAM

In addition to the Summer Camp Program, the Recreation Department will offer its Counselor in Training (C.I.T.) Program, a valuable leadership opportunity for teens entering 9-10 grades.

Available from June 8 through July 31, the one-week, junior-level program will focus on personal growth and hands-on experience, allowing participants to:

– Assist camp counselors and mentor younger campers

– Develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills

– Earn community service hours

– Receive compression-only CPR skills

– Gain valuable work experience in a safe and supportive, home-based setting at the center

Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The program will culminate with an end-of-summer celebration.

The cost per week is $40 for members and $50 for non-members.

A mandatory C.I.T. Training session will be held on June 5 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the center.
