Kiwanis holds meetings with speakers
The Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Club recently welcomed islands historian and local author Betty Anholt as its guest speaker at a meeting. Her presentation covered Sanibel-Captiva’s rich history, the people who shaped it, and the changes seen over the years. At a following meeting, it welcomed South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Governing Board Chairman Chauncey Goss. He shared insight into the efforts underway to help keep the local water clean and protected. City of Sanibel Director of Information Technology (IT) Bert Smith was also welcomed as a guest speaker at a recent meeting. He provided information about the work behind technology systems and role IT plays in helping to keep the community connected and running smoothly. Additionally, the club welcomed island entrepreneur, volunteer and community supporter Rachel Pierce. She serves on the boards for the Charitable Foundation of the Islands and Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) and is involved with The Sanibel School PTA. Pierce is also appreciated for her work as a volunteer emcee and auctioneer at community events throughout the islands. The club meets on Tuesdays at 7 a.m. at The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club, at 949 Sand Castle Road, Sanibel. For more information, visit sancapkiwanis.org.
