The Captiva Memorial Library, which is part of the Lee County Library System, is offering the following free programming:

ADULT PROGRAMS

– June 1: Summer Reading Program Crafts

(during operating hours)

Enjoy a variety of table-top crafts and activities, including coloring pages.

TEEN PROGRAMS

Enjoy a variety of table-top crafts and activities, including Dig Up a Dinosaur. Youths become junior paleontologists, searching through sand to uncover a hidden dinosaur skeleton and seashells. They can then use the dinosaur skeleton to press into clay and create their own homemade fossil to take home.

The library is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.

– June 3: Online Author Event with Mary Savig from 2 to 3 p.m.

Join a fascinating discussion with Smithsonian curator Mary Savig on the history and significance of craft at state fairs — from blue-ribbon quilts to sculpted butter cows. She is The Fleur and Charles Bresler Curator-in-Charge of the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery. Savig holds a Ph.D. in American studies from the University of Maryland, College Park. The event is part of the Online Author Events Series. Registration is required.
