The Captiva Memorial Library, which is part of the Lee County Library System, is offering the following free programming:

CHILDREN PROGRAMS

The library is open on Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.

ADULT PROGRAMS

– May 7: Online Basic Beginning Genealogy Research from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Genealogy is the process of tracing your family back through the centuries. The discussion will cover the basic research tools and 10 proven steps for success. Registration is required by May 7 at 9 a.m.

– May 7: Online Author Event with Marjan Kamali from 7 to 8 p.m.

Join an exciting conversation with internationally acclaimed author Marjan Kamali and delve into the timeless wonder of her New York Times bestselling novel, “The Lion Women of Tehran.” Born in Turkey to Iranian parents, she is also the author of “The Stationery Shop” and “Together Tea.” Kamali is the 2022 recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Award. Her books have been translated into over 30 languages. The event is part of the Online Author Events Series. Registration is required.

– May 12: Online Author Event with Vivienne Ming from 2 to 3 p.m.

Discover what it means to be human in the age of AI with Dr. Vivienne Ming as she discusses her book, “Robot-Proof: When Machines Have All the Answers, Build Better People.” She is a theoretical neuroscientist, entrepreneur and author dedicated to maximizing human potential through AI and neuroscience. Ming has founded multiple startups and leads innovative work in education, bias in hiring and neurotechnology. She was named one of Inc. Magazine’s “10 Women to Watch in Tech” and one of the BBC’s 100 Women. Ming’s work has been featured in the The New York Times, The Atlantic and the Financial Times. The event is part of the Online Author Events Series. Registration is required.
