SPD releases monthly numbers

As part of its recent The Sanibel Community Safety Update, the Sanibel Police Department (SPD) released “Island Safety By The Numbers” for the month of March.

The numbers are as follows:

– Traffic stops: 302

– Traffic citations issued: 73

– Traffic warnings issued: 237

– Traffic radar details: 281

– Traffic crashes: 19

– Arrests: Six

– Notices to appear issued: One

– 911 calls: 251

– Alarm calls: 29

– Residential area checks: 1,443

– Business area checks: 1,139

– Total area checks: 3,683

– Reported burglaries/thefts: One

– Total calls for service: 6,491

– Ranger contacts on Shared Use Path: 2,873

– Ranger contacts at parks/on beaches: 3,093

ARRESTS, NOTICES TO APPEAR

– On March 8, a traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle for excessive speed. The driver was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.

– On March 10, a traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle with its rear lights not illuminated. The driver was arrested and charged with DUI.

– On March 23, a traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle going 85 mph in a 35 mph zone. The driver was arrested and charged with exceeding the speed limit by 50-plus mph.

– On March 25, a traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle with no visible taillights or tag light. The driver was arrested and charged with an out-of-county warrant.

– On March 26, a traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle. The driver was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.

– On March 28, a vehicle pulled into the lane of an oncoming patrol vehicle and struck the patrol vehicle’s rear tire. The driver was arrested and charged with DUI, DUI with property damage and DUI refusal to submit.
