Sanibel school PTA to host Annual Seahorse Festival
The islands community will have the chance to take part in a family-friendly event this weekend.
The Sanibel School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) will host its Annual Seahorse Festival on April 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the pavilion at The Sanibel School on Sanibel. Free and open to the public, it will feature activities for the whole family, such as inflatables and games, plus an auction and more.
“It’s one of our more fun events that members of the community and students at the school and families really seem to enjoy,” PTA President Samantha Britt said, explaining that it brings families and the community together to have a good time and wrap up the school year’s approaching end.
“So it’s become a tradition over the years as a way for the PTA to give back,” she added.
There will be inflatables, an obstacle course, slides and bounce houses, including one for toddlers.
“We’ll have a dunk tank,” Britt added. “We will have face painting.”
Attendees can take part in yard games, like cornhole and a giant Connect Four.
There will also be games, with different levels and opportunities to win prizes.
“We’ll have our punch cups again. We’ll also have our Plinko,” she said, noting that there will be a new ring toss game and a rubber duck matching game. “We’ll have our wheel game that we did last year.”
The prizes will include gift cards, stuffed animals, Squishmallows and more.
“There’s going to be toys, including Nerf guns and water guns,” Britt added.
Most of the activities will be free.
“Anything that provides a prize requires a ticket,” she said, explaining that the games are typically $2 per ticket, so attendees can usually play five games for just $10.
In addition, there will be a small silent auction.
“We’ll have a few items,” Britt said of what will be up for grabs, citing a fire house birthday party, a recreation center birthday party and some other miscellaneous kids baskets.
Local food trucks and Kona Ice will be available for food and refreshments.
The Kate Foundation is sponsoring the event.
“We always appreciate their support every year,” she said. “They make sure they sponsor quite a few of our events, including this one.”
The islands are invited to come out and enjoy.
“It’s always wonderful to be able to have the community together, especially when it comes to supporting the only K-8 school on the islands,” Britt said. “At the end of the day, everybody is reliant on each other, and the school plays a pivotal part in the community.”
