CAPTAINS FOR CLEAN WATER Capt. Bob Beville

The Progressives of the Islands will welcome guest speaker and Captains For Clean Water Board Member Capt. Bob Beville on April 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Sanibel Public Library, at 770 Dunlop Road, Sanibel.

He will talk about “Water … Our Critical Environmental Issues.” Beville will share his extensive knowledge and passion for Florida’s waterways. The presentation will cover the ongoing efforts to protect the Everglades, combat red tide and address water quality issues that impact the Sanibel and Captiva communities.

A third generation Floridian, Beville began coming to Southwest Florida from Miami in the 1950s and fished the crystal clear waters of the Pine Island Sound with his grandfather. He moved to Fort Myers in 1976 and took a position with Waterman Broadcasting in 1980, where he is presently vice president of sales. Beville obtained his United States Coast Guard (USCG) captain’s license in 2004.

He is the former president of Big Brothers Big Sisters, former president of The Rotary Club of Fort Myers and president of the Lakes Park Enrichment Foundation. Beville serves on the United Way’s Allocations Committees, Lee County Parks and Recreation’s Advisory Board and Komen Grant’s Review Committee.

The program is free and open to the public, but RSVPs are required.
