Shelly Clarkson, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, found a junonia on April 4 at about 9 p.m. at Tarpon Bay Beach on Sanibel. She was shelling in the tide pools with her daughter, Bella Clarkson, and son, Nick Clarkson, when she spotted it. Despite being a bit covered by sand and other shells, Clarkson noticed the markings of the junonia immediately. She was vacationing on the island for the first time for spring break. “This is her first junonia find!” her daughter said. Shelling is one of Clarkson’s favorite hobbies to do with her daughter. They spent most of the week catching the low tides and comparing finds. Some of her favorite shells to find — aside from the junonia — were alphabet cones, common nutmegs and moon snails.
