Sarah Camper Rodriguez, of St. Augustine, found a junonia on April 4 at about 8:30 a.m. at Bowman’s Beach on Sanibel. She was shelling with her friend, Rachel Lopez, when she looked down and spotted the brown spots peeking from the sand at the surf line. Rodriguez reported that she reached down and frantically pulled out the whole junonia. “I was absolutely flabbergasted,” she said. “My friend, Rachel, and I celebrated with excited screaming, jumping and hugging; soon other shellers joined in on our celebration.” Rodriguez was visiting the island with her family for Easter weekend. She noted that it is her second time coming to Sanibel, but it is quickly become her family’s favorite island paradise. “It was the highlight of the weekend, and the absolute peak of my shelling journey!” Rodriguez said of finding the junonia.
