Junonia found on Captiva
Sharanya Subramaniam, of Troy, Michigan, found a junonia on April 1 on Captiva. She found it while swimming right off shore with goggles on. Subramaniam reported that she was vacationing on the island with her partner and his family, who have been coming to Captiva since the 1980s. “It’s a really special place for them and has become just as meaningful to me,” she said. Subramaniam noted that she only became interested in shelling in the past few years and is still pretty new to it. A junonia was not even something that Subramaniam thought much about when looking for shells on this trip, adding that she read the trick is not to look for one at all. “What excites me most about this find is imagining the journey this little shell took to finally reach the shore — and still in perfect condition!” Subramaniam added.
