Festival continues with string quartet
The Sanibel Music Festival continued its 39th season with the Viano Quartet on March 10 at the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ on Sanibel. Violist Aiden Kane, violinists Lucy Wang and Hao Zhou, and cellist Tate Zawadiuk delighted attendees with a varied display of their talents. The program selection and order were devised by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, starting with Haydn Quartet in D Major Op 76 No 5, followed by Mendelssohn String Quartet No 3 in D Major Op 44 No 1. A more contemporary Langsamer Satz by Webern opened the second portion of the concert, followed by a fiery and virtuosic Shostakovich String Quartet no 9 in E flat major Op117 as the finale. Festival board members and major donors and hosts for the artists enjoyed informal conversation with the quartet at the Afterglow afterward, along with wine and hors d’oeuvres. The annual festival took place from March 3-24 on select Tuesdays and Saturdays at the church.
