STUDENTS REACH 100K WORDS READ

The Sanibel School first graders Rory Flanningan, 7, and Beau Gales, 7, recently accomplished a milestone in their journey to becoming lifetime readers.

Both reached 100,000 words read.

Their teacher, Emily Wells, rewarded them with Pinocchio’s Original Italian Ice Cream gift cards.

KOVARIK SELECTED AS ANNUAL SCHOLAR

The Sanibel School sixth grader Anna Kovarik was honored as a first-time 2026 Carson Scholar.

The Carson Scholars Fund awards $1,000 college scholarships to students in grades 4-11 who maintain a minimum 3.75 GPA and go above and beyond in service to their communities. They are nominated by educators who see in them something that goes beyond a grade point average.

There were 33 new scholars this year from the School District of Lee County, along with 92 students who earned Carson Scholar Recognition for maintaining the honor.

All of the scholars were honored at the Lee County Awards Banquet on April 19 at the Caloosa Sound Convention Center in Fort Myers.
