CLINIC FOR THE REHABILITATION OF WILDLIFE The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife will welcome author Emiliana Fuger, 9, on May 9 on Sanibel for a presentation and talk.

The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) will host a presentation and talk with author Emiliana Fuger, 9, on May 9 from 11 a.m. to noon at its Visitors Education Center on Sanibel.

Her debut book, “Anatomy Under the Sea: The Adventures of Luna the Loggerhead,” is part of the Library of Congress. Emiliana created the book to make marine science accessible and engaging for young readers after she encountered a lack of age-appropriate resources during her own research.

The short presentation will highlight her work in marine science education and sea turtle conservation. Emiliana will read her book, share her sea turtle model, and chat about experience as young author.

There will also be a book signing.

In addition, family-friendly activities will include take-home crafts and snacks.

Written by Emiliana and illustrated by Jess Burbank, the rhyming story follows Luna the loggerhead sea turtle on a journey through South Florida’s coastal waters to Juno Beach. Along the way, Luna encounters a variety of marine species and explores how their internal anatomy compares to her own — blending storytelling with real scientific concepts.

Published by Orange Hat Publishing in January, “Anatomy Under the Sea” introduces readers of all ages to ocean life, anatomy and conservation in an engaging and accessible way.

Emiliana’s achievements include winning the 2025 Wavemaker STEM Competition, being named a 2025 Go Blue Award finalist, and being selected to represent Florida in a PBS Kids feature.

Copies of her book are available for purchase at the CROW gift shop.

The event is free and open to the public, with donations welcome. Registration is required.
