The Kinzie Island community on Sanibel hosted a Charity Chili Cookoff on March 30 featuring six local chefs. Community-organized and led by Gretchen “Gee Gee” Gailey and Vicky Farrell, it celebrated the spirit of intergenerational giving, neighbor-to-neighbor support and enduring unity of the islands. Nearly 50 attending residents and friends awarded the top honors to: Dennis Devoy, first place; Robyn Marker, second place; and Chuck Hammond, third place. The event raised $890, which was matched by Kinzie Island resident Jerry Mihaly. The funds were donated to FISH of Sanibel-Captiva. Gailey and Farrell shared that the event showed what makes the islands special — neighbors coming together to support one another. The community looks forward to making it an annual tradition.
