The Captiva Chapel by the Sea and ‘Tween Waters Inn & Marina will host a special performance, “Opera on the Beach,” on April 10 from 7 to 8 p.m. on the beachfront adjacent to the historic chapel.

A concert of arias and duets, it will feature soprano Susan Hellman Spatafora joined by tenor Adam Diegel and pianist Brent Douglas. Free and open to all, the performance will highlight opera favorites.

The chapel reported that “Sunset Arias — Opera on the Beach” concerts were a long-held tradition at ‘Tween Waters before Hurricane Ian in 2022. Residents and visitors have been keen to reinstate the series, which combines world-class operatic performances with the natural beauty of Captiva’s shores.

“We are thrilled to bring back this cherished tradition to our beach community,” chapel Board Member Nathalie Pyle said. “To gather with friends on the breathtaking Captiva seaside and experience the soaring beauty of opera and the human voice, all set against the backdrop of God’s natural splendor, is truly unforgettable.”

The performance will include well-loved arias and duets from operas, including Verdi’s “La Traviata,” Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette,” Carlisle Floyd’s “Susannah,” Dvořák’s “Rusalka,” and Puccini’s “Tosca,” “La Bohème” and “Turandot” that will be familiar to new listeners and seasoned opera-goers.

‘Tween Waters will offer a pre-opera dinner before the concert at its Old Captiva House.

Seating is limited. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or beach towel.

Parking will be available.
