Rec center provides update on activities, events

The Sanibel Recreation Center reported on upcoming programs and activities.

Arcadia All-Florida Championship Rodeo will be held on March 12 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Transportation provided by city van. Food available for purchase at event. The cost is $55 for members and $69 for non-members. Registration is required.

Thrive On Thursdays will take place on March 12 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sue Van Oss will present “Rooted in Simplicity: Exploring the Danish Practice of Hygge.” The program is free, but registration is required.

A Fun Day will be held on March 13 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open to grades K-8, it will feature crafts, games, sports and a movie. The cost is $30 for members and $40 for non-members. Registration is required.

In partnership with the SanCap Chamber, Sanibel Play & Pour Cafe will take place on March 13 at 11 a.m. Open to ages 65 and older, the laid-back gathering will feature puzzles, games — including the new Sanibel board game — trivia, coffee and conservation designed to keep minds active and friendships growing. Light refreshments will be provided. The program is free, but registration is required.

The city’s Reduce Your Waste Size Series will be held on March 14 from 10 to 11 a.m. with Sanibel Chief Resilience Officer Ashlee Painter. The workshop will be on “Trash & Recycling.” Attendees will learn the five R’s and ways to reduce waste going to landfills. The program is free, but registration is required.

Spring Break Camp will take place from March 16-20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open to grades K-8, it will feature arts and crafts, games, sports and swimming. The cost is $135 for members and $170 for non-members. Registration is required.

Get to Know Your Island will take place on March 17 at noon. The program will highlight the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium. The speaker series is designed to connect the community with people and organizations that make Sanibel unique. Light refreshments will be provided. The program is free, but registration is required.

The Boston Red Sox will take on the Atlanta Braves on March 17 at 1:05 p.m. at JetBlue Park, at 11500 Fenway South Drive, Fort Myers. Optional shuttle van will depart at 11 a.m. Seats are preassigned and will be in section 200. The tickets are $43 for members and $53 for non-members. Registration is required.

The Art Of Breathing with Kim Muncil will be held on March 18 from 10:45 a.m. to noon. The cost is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Registration is required.

The center is open on Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. to5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Beach parking permits are available for purchase.

Volunteer opportunities at the center are now coordinated through the POINT online platform. It provides a simple, user-friendly way for people to browse opportunities, sign up for shifts and track their service hours. Current opportunities include stuffing Easter eggs and volunteering for the Great Spring Egg Hunt and assisting with the Shared Use Path Survey.
