Noah’s Ark Thrift Shop to present fashion show
One of the island’s beloved, longstanding traditions will return next week for the community.
Located at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Noah’s Ark Thrift Shop will present its “Love is in the Air” Fashion Show on Feb. 9 at 12:30 p.m. in the church’s Sanctuary on Sanibel.
“We’re trying to bring the history of this back. We’re trying to get back to what we used to have,” store Assistant Manager JoEllen Simons said. “We have enough people again on the islands to enjoy it.”
It will be a Valentine-themed celebration of style, fun and community spirit.
For the fashion show, volunteers from the shop will model their favorite finds on the runway.
Simons noted that there will be about nine models.
“They’re all going to showcase three different outfits,” she said.
There will be bold, exciting colors for one, like tropical, plus evening wear.
“The third outfit is something that they chose themselves that they love,” Simons said.
In line with the theme, the models will strut the runway to old love songs.
“Like Aretha Franklin,” she said.
The featured outfits will be available for purchase immediately afterward.
“All of them are going to priced and on display,” Simons said.
Also, the store will be open for one hour for attendees to do any shopping.
“We have bathing suits. We have men’s clothing. We have shoes,” she said. “We have electronics. We have a children’s section — they can shop for furniture, housewares.”
There will also be an opportunity to win one of seven door prizes, which will be themed baskets. Simons explained that the baskets are comprised of brand new, unopened items that came in.
“We’re hiding seven hearts throughout the store,” she said. “They’ll be numbered to each basket.”
Refreshments will be provided.
“And cookies that all of our volunteers are making,” Simons added.
Admission is free; no ticket or RSVP is required.
“We recommend they come early for a good seat,” she said of the show.
The public is welcome to attend.
“It’s just a great gathering. It’s a fun day with a great group of people,” Simons said. “And when you come and shop, you’re supporting all of the things we do and the organizations we donate to.”
