Island school’s PTA to host Seahorse Social
Tickets are available for a fundraiser to support the teachers and students at The Sanibel School.
The Sanibel School PTA will hold its Annual Seahorse Social, “Fire & Ice Evening: A Fundraising Gala,” on Feb. 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Community House on Sanibel. It will feature live and silent auctions, a catered dinner, entertainment and more.
“It’s our one main fundraiser that we do every year,” PTA President Samantha Britt said. “It’s our primary fundraiser to raise funds for the following school year.”
The proceeds will go toward events for students, classroom grants, to pay for and take care of academic materials that go above and beyond what the School District of Lee County supplies, and more.
“It’s the fundraiser that allows us to be able to provide support for the students, for the teachers,” she said.
Artist Rachel Pierce will serve as auctioneer for the live event, with a silent auction also planned.
“Our live auction will feature a handful of items that tend to be our most attractive items,” Britt said.
Some of the goodies up for grabs among both auctions will include a live painting party with Pierce, an offshore fishing charter, a reserved parking space at the school, jewelry by Congress Jewelers, beauty packages, gifts cards and swag, a private shopping experience, and such.
“So there’s really cool items and experiences,” she said.
Attendees will enjoy dinner and more from Savour First Choice Catering.
“There will be a cocktail hour with butcher-served hors d’oeuvres,” Britt said of kicking off the evening, which will be followed by the main course. “We’ll also have desserts and coffee.”
Music Department Director and elementary music teacher Joey Giangreco will serve as the deejay.
“He does a great job,” she said. “He’s always very enthusiastic.”
In line with the theme, fire-inspired bolds or ice-cool elegance is encouraged for attire.
“The plan for the evening, as far as the decor, is to have the room divided in blue ice and red fire,” Britt said. “We’re hoping and encouraging people to dress according to the theme. We’re hoping that brings an element that’s a little bit of fun, but not too restricting.”
Sponsors include: The Kate Foundation, as diamond; Bank of the Islands, as platinum; Sanibel Captiva Community Bank, as silver; and Island Home Watch, as bronze; along with additional supporters.
“Without them and without the support of our families and community, we wouldn’t be able to provide what we do and can for the teachers and students,” she said. “We always appreciate their support.”
Tickets are $100 per person, with Sponsor A Teacher tickets also available for $100 each.
The community is invited to secure a seat.
“We’re hoping that everybody is able to attend and come out and have a great time at a beautiful location, and it all goes to an amazing cause,” Britt said. “It’s the only school we have on the islands that supports our students in K-8.”
