Captiva library, county system offer programs

The Captiva Memorial Library, which is part of the Lee County Library System, is offering the following free programming:

ADULT PROGRAMS

– Feb. 12: Florida Shipwrecks from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

With more than 2,000 documented shipwrecks in its waters, Florida ranks second in the United States, only surpassed by Michigan. Attendees will look at 30 shipwrecks that influenced Florida history through the ages. Registration is required by Feb. 12 at 9 a.m.

CHILDREN PROGRAMS

– Feb. 11: Make a Valentine Heart Friend

Make your very own heart-felt friend to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

– Feb. 12: Make a Valentine Heart Friend

Make your very own heart-felt friend to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Make your very own heart-felt friend to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

The library is open on Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.

In addition, the library system is offering the following free virtual programming:

ADULT PROGRAMS

– Feb. 12: Online Author Event with Lindsey Stewart from 2 to 3 p.m.

Join a captivating presentation with philosopher and author Lindsey Stewart as she discusses her new work, “The Conjuring of America: Mojos, Mermaids, Medicine, and 400 Years of Black Women’s Magic.” She is a Black feminist philosopher and associate professor of philosophy at the University of Memphis whose work explores African American feminism, regional identity and political agency. Stewart is the author of “The Politics of Black Joy” and the 2021 winner of the Michael Beaney Prize. Her scholarship has been featured in Signs, Hypatia and other prominent journals. The event is part of the Online Author Events Series. Registration is required.
