Annual Health Fair to feature resources, screenings
The community will have the chance this weekend to start off the new year in a healthy way.
In partnership with Lee Health and the Sanibel Captiva Business Women’s Association, the city of Sanibel’s Recreation Department will present the 2nd Annual Health Fair on Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sanibel Recreation Center. It will feature resources, medical screenings and information.
Recreation Director Andrea Miller explained that the goal is to promote community wellness by providing accessible health education, preventive screenings and resources that empower individuals to lead healthier lives.
“Through partnerships with local healthcare providers, fitness experts and wellness organizations, this event fosters a supportive environment where residents can learn, connect and take proactive steps toward improving their physical, mental and emotional well-being,” she said.
Free and open to the public, there will be over 30 exhibitors.
“It’s going to be a great mix of island and off-island resources,” Recreation Department Marketing & Events Coordinator Denise Dillon said. “For youths and adults — medical providers for all ages.”
“There will be medical screenings, education and information provided,” she added.
There will be free testings for cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose, diabetes, balance and such, along with information available on women’s and men’s health, behavioral health, dental health and more.
The Sanibel Fire and Rescue District will offer attendees blood pressure screenings, and the Sanibel Police Department will be available to collect expired prescription medications for safe disposal.
In addition, MammoLink 3D and OnSpot Dermatology will have mobile services.
“They will be doing full screenings for the community,” Dillon said of OnSpot Dermatology’s bus. “Obviously, looking for skin cancer spots and any other issues that patients might have.”
“They’ll be doing mammograms right on site on their bus,” she said of MammoLink 3D.
Unlike the rest of the event, both are self pay or through insurance.
Those interested will need to register for an appointment.
Also during the event, Lee Health will hold a blood drive.
“You can register by calling the rec center to select a time, or you can just walk into the bus,” Dillon said.
There will be opportunities to win items donated by the exhibitors.
“We’re going to have door prizes,” she said.
The community is encouraged to come out.
“Take charge of your well-being. Enjoy free health screenings, expert advice and valuable resources all in one convenient location,” Miller said. “Whether you’re looking to improve your fitness, learn about nutrition or connect with local healthcare providers, this event is your opportunity to invest in a healthier future.”
