The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) will hold weekly, educational guided walks on two of its trail systems: the newly reopened William and Ruth Brooks Trails behind its headquarters and the Shipley Trail, located adjacent to the SCCF’s Native Landscapes & Garden Center and Bailey Homestead Preserve.

– William and Ruth Brooks Trails: Tuesdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Beginning on Jan. 20, step into Sanibel’s natural wonders at the William and Ruth Brooks Trails. Wander through shady uplands, skirt vibrant wetlands and catch a close-up view of the Sanibel Slough, while discovering the wildlife and plants that thrive there. Along the way, hear stories of the island’s conservation legacy and how recent storms have shaped its ecosystems. Participants will meet at the trails entrance in the parking lot on the west side of the SCCF’s headquarters, at 3333 Sanibel-Captiva Road, Sanibel. Wear sturdy shoes and bring insect repellent, water and sun protection.

– Shipley Trail: Thursdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Beginning on Jan. 22, enjoy a leisurely guided stroll down the Shipley Trail and discover Sanibel’s remarkable conservation story, the history of the Bailey preserve and the island ecosystems that shaped it all. Then wander through the garden center to explore vibrant native plant demonstration gardens, see what is in bloom and spot the pollinators bringing the space to life. Not open except on a guided walk or during special events, the tour will finish with a rare peek inside the 1896 Bailey house. Participants will meet at the kiosk on the western side of the trail at the preserve, at 1300 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Wear sturdy shoes and bring insect repellent, water and sun protection.

No RSVP is required to participate. The walks are free, but donations are welcome at https://wl.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E341711&id=4.
